Prepare to focus everything you're doing to git gud so you're not letting your fleet members down because they're all on mic as you'll need to be and they will let you know. They'll set you up right and they'll run fleet teams all day against themselves or any other fleets doing the same, but a lone pug, forget about it you need to be in a team from jump street or you'll be waiting to just get into a game of essentially discouragement. If you really want to do some PvP then advertise in chat to join a PvP Fleet. PvP used to be awesomesauce back in the day, but now if you can even get a game then you're just going to have someone pop out of cloak in your face, rip your shields away with a tachyon beam type clickey and punch you in the nose with 8 torpedoes off of high yield and all you'll get is a good look at the respawn counter for most of the game. You'll eventually get a weird Doff on those toons that will tell you it's an Aegis duder, bind him immediately so you can't accidentally upgrade it, seriously don't lose that Doff you'll thank me later. Also, switch up their professions so you also have one Tactical, one Engineer, and one Science because later on you'll want to build training manuals for your various Boff's that you'll need to craft or buy for some really inflated prices. You don't have to level them all now, just tutorial them to Earth Spacedock or Klingon Academy. Right now there's a Delta event going on and it'll be years until the next one so build at least 2 more alts so you'll have one Klingon Delta, ones Romulan Delta and one Starfleet Delta. To get the kind of build you're talking about that towers over the rest you're looking at buying ships just for a console to use on a second ship that takes advantage of this cool clicky you've got from a third ship so let all that noise go for now and decide whether you really dig the game or not. It is really a pretty casual game anymore and we call the glitches they never fix it's personality, but the benefits of one piece of gear over another are so minuscule that really, don't bother. When you do want to get into builds for a crazy win or just be all beefy and dangerous check out Counter Yolo, duder obsesses on that kinda sheet. You will accumulate stuff and that stuff will make things way easier so don't stress too much on the destination, once your keybinds are second nature to you your journey will be enjoyable no matter what your gear is. The ground combat will never get better though, it is the jankiest jank of janksvlle, look to eventually give each of your ground Boff's their own combat pet and fill your kit with AOE's that you can drop all day and call that your ground loadout. You might like to strafe things with dual heavy cannons doing attack runs and spinning back around on them or you might be content with circling the baddies like a shark in a beam boat and slowly ripping their hull apart piece by piece right now just find your fun. When you hit 65th level which will be sooner than you think try out different loadouts on the cheap as different loadouts fight and fly differently. Right now just normal it or advanced it with your guns on autofire, enjoy the ride and explore the story because you're not going to get there from here any time soon anyway. By the time you can start playing BiS games for real you'll know what to do. Unless you're at the endgame for a couple years and want to show off as billy badazz on elite I really wouldn't lose any sleep over squeezing every point of dps you can out of MK XV Dmg x4 acc/dmg pew pew pews. Check the dates on the things you've read, they're likely a bit old news. Minmaxing and getting the numbers for you just so used to be a pretty important and fun number crunch, but things have been simplified a lot.
